Hail Damage Prevention

Did you know that there are around 3,000 hailstorms in the United States annually? Even though some of these storms aren’t quite severe enough to produce tornadoes, or even floods, they can still cost you a ton of money in property damage. Here at SERVPRO of Lake Worth/Benbrook we are prone to hail storms and they can be the costliest type of severe weather in the state of Texas after hurricanes.

While we can’t completely prevent hail damage, we can lessen the impact by preparing our homes from the inevitable. Here’s a small list of ways you can protect your home:

• Pay close attention to the weather – Keep an eye on your TV or phone, it will often give you a warning.
• Repair your roof – Inspect your roof before the storm season starts. If you find any damage, be sure to repair the issues right away. Even if the damage is something as tiny as a broken shingle, it can make way to bigger problems in the future.
• Trim your trees – If hail can put dents into a parked car, it can definitely cause cracks in branches. Damaged branches can fall and damage your roof or car.
• Close the drapes/blinds – If a storm is coming, close your drapes! Hail can hit your windows and cause the glass to break. Drapes can prevent debris that can be carried inside your home from the wind.
