What To Do In The Event Of A Storm?

6/29/2018 (Permalink)

Even though the end of spring and the start of summer was last week, here in North Texas that doesn’t necessarily mean we’re in the clear for severe weather. Severe weather can pop up any time during the summer, and especially when we transition from summer to fall. We know what to do during storms (go inside to a non-outside facing room, close curtains and blinds... etc.) but what about after the storm? Below are three helpful tips in the event that your home has suffered storm damage.

  1. Safety is the number goal! Make sure you and your family are safe after the threat of the storm has passed. Watch out for safety hazards such as broken glass and exposed nails. If you’re dealing with flood waters be sure to wear protective clothing like boots, gloves, eye protection and masks. If your home has been damaged by flood waters, it can contain bacteria, sewage, or other dangers.
  2. To help with filing your insurance claim, document the damage! Take videos and pictures of your whole property, and from different angles too. Take photos of all the damage from the inside and the outside.
  3. In the event of a flood, extracting the water is the most important step to restoring your home! As soon as you hang up the phone, we will be on our way to your location immediately with the proper equipment to begin extracting and drying. We will also evaluate your belongings to see if they can be cleaned and restored.
